PUBLICATION OF A BEGINNERS GUIDE — Teaching Artistry for Community Building and Healing
Peter Atsu Adaletey completed his culminating ITAC Innovator report, in collaboration with his convened working group.
As a 2021-2022 ITAC Innovator, Peter delivered a Think Tank, and subsequently led an international working group, focused on Building and Healing Communities through the Arts. Peter’s resulting Beginner’s Guide resource, having fetched input from teaching artists around the world, collectively identifies problems facing communities and how teaching artists, acting as community surgeons, can use additional ideas and methodologies for building and healing communities through the arts. This resource is a collation of practical how-to approaches and reflections from volunteer teaching artists, which we hope can inspire and inform other teaching artists.

In 2020, Covid-19 denied the International Teaching Artist Collaborative (ITAC), from organising the usual in-person arts conference (International Teaching Artist Conference) which was going to be a great gathering at Seoul, South Korea). Persistent, ITAC 5 was organised online and Atsu was appointed as a Collective Room Leader.
In 2018, he was selected as a fully funded delegate for the International Teaching Artist Conference (held at New York, USA) organized by the International Teaching Artist Collaborative (ITAC).
Same year, he was appointed by the organizers of the Kampala International Theatre Festival as a Stage Manager for a UK based award-winning theatre company, Seemia Theatre but unfortunately, he couldn’t embrace those opportunities due to conflicting scenes.
Persistent and deeply dedicated to his passion, he was selected by ITAC as a Catalyst and to extend ITAC’s initiatives in Ghana, he established ITAC GHANA COLLECTIVE. He is the Country Director and still working with other volunteers to lift it. Atsu has extensively extended teaching artistry to schools, churches and art organizations in communities across Ghana.

In 2006, he registered the organisation through the financial support of Zoey Martinson. Peter’s connection to Zoey was through Joseph Ametam; a generous and dedicated member of the club in Ketasco and the organisation at Accra.
