ATSU ADALETEY, ITAC GHANA EXTENDS ARTS INTEGRATION AT VILLAGE OF HOPE — Hope Christian Academy
Arts integration is a teaching strategy in which the arts are integrated with the non-arts curriculum to deepen students’ understanding of both (Isenberg & Jalongo, 2010, Werner & Freeman, 2001).
ITAC Ghana made it to Village of Hope. Village of Hope exists to save lives and serve humanity; provides services in the areas of child care, health care and education, to bring hope to the most vulnerable members of Ghanaian society.
As Atsu Adaletey continues to see the need to extend ITAC Ghana’s agenda to schools, the management of Hope Christian Academy wholly enrolled teachers and administrators in the Arts Integration workshop held at Village of Hope on the 29th June, 2021.
“To enhance teaching and learning, we must come to the point where we begin to critically re-examine our approach to content delivery. Until the learners emotionally connect to the lessons through play; a free environment where they can explore and personalize concepts through and with the arts, I am sorry, we might end up producing more robots than humans.” — Peter Atsu Adaletey, ITAC Catalyst
Our teachers are very appreciative of this gesture. You really got everyone engaged and to me, that was a big plus. We would recommend you as much as possible.
Mr. Sappah Yahaya, Finance and Administrative Manager, Hope Christian Academy.
This and many more has been the testimonies fetched from participants. It is therefore an indisputable fact that arts integration increases learners participation, inspires them to take ownership of learning, boosts self-confidence, opens facilitators to new or better relationships with learners, clearly ignites cooperative learning (tolerance and co-creating/co-solving), free-flow expression of Ideas or feelings, makes them becomes adaptable, and zeal for learning grows naturally and with great enthusiasm.
ITAC Ghana acknowledges the efforts of Mrs. Faustina Asare — Managing Director, Hope Christian Academy, Mr. Francis Adenyo, Headteacher, Basic School Department, Mrs. Janet Akuayi, Headteacher, Pre-school Department, Mr. Paul Amankwaah & Mr. Thomas Kobina Anowie — Heads of Academics, Mr. Alex Bapa — Domestic Head, Mr. Sappah Yahaya — Finance and Administrative Manager.
